Sealing of a New Rail Tunnel

SEALING MEASURES IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW TUNNEL (RAIL TUNNEL)

The construction of the tunnel consists of two parallel drilling pale walls made of concrete (diameter approx. 88 cm) with a super-tough arranged steel concrete cover (c = 10-13 cm).

Because special water pollution of layers of occurred on the South-facing drilling pale wall, an additional sealing of the drilling pale wall was necessary. The drilling pale wall showed lateral boundaries and in the lower zones of water leaks. and shortly after completion of layering of fine ingredients from the back adjacent ground.

Sealing tests with EP and PU resin injections were unsuccessful (see water leaks at the injection sites). A wedge shaped, not hydrophobic layer of cement mortar was introduced at the interfaces between the adjacent concrete drilling pales, before seal with Controll® Innerseal. This mineral filling had the task to close the partly very wide cracks (up to 45 mm in depth) and to minimize the water outlet. Also been done at the interfaces between bored piles and the concrete floor.

Then, Controll® Innerseal has been applied three times with a low pressure spraying system. After 28 days, visible on the whitish residue of crystallization on the concrete and mortar, the complete drying took place. The silicate sealing action was successfully performed with Controll® Innerseal and reached to an economic budget, subsequent seal.

Controll® Innerseal is non-toxic and therefore not distinguishing mark according to the hazardous substances regulation. It is colourless, odourless, solvent-free and non-flammable.

Controll® Innerseal makes concretes resistant to chemical attack and impervious to water against both, positive and negative hydrostatic pressure, and is an active a deeply urgent corrosion protection of reinforcement steel in concrete (Deep penetration > 195 mm). Also, any harmful salts in the mineral building material cast out during the crystallization and curing process.

Beyond the product properties Controll® Innerseal and Controll® Topseal stand out due to low cost and short lay on times.
