TREATMENT OF PLACE CONCRETE SURFACES OF A NEW BUILDING IN COLOGNE

The exterior wall surfaces of the facade (C30 / 37 building – C 40 / 50 cupola, total area approximately 10,600 m2) of the Cologne new building for an Islamic cultural center should not film-forming or color-changing hydrophobic treated. The offering for public tender was 2010 by the architecture office Paul Böhm.

Controll® Topseal was chosen as water-repellent product from multiple tested products. This crucial were the unique features of the product.

As of December 2010 were hydrophobic ca 4,300 m2 of place concrete walls with CRT. In the spring of 2011 are more about 6,300 m2, treated so far still unfinished surfaces (other buildings, minarets, dome, etc.).

After the concrete of façade surfaces had reached most of its final strength, the surfaces were increased by the shell companies with an air hammer with chisel. Then the surfaces were cleaned by the BetonSeal Construction GmbH & Co.KG with air pressure of dust and once in the low pressure spray technique (hand sprayer trade mark Solo) treated with Controll® Topseal. The consumption amounted to approximately 0.2 l / m2. The lower 5 meters of façade area be fitted with a non-film binding semi-permanent graffiti protection after treatment with Controll® Topseal.

Controll® Topseal includes water-soluble potassium Methylsilanetriolate with organic catalyst, which a deep penetrating allows up to 6 cm. As a result are back circulating prevents and frost spalling (E.g. through chill – dew – change) impossible. In addition, it increases the chemical resistance of mineral building materials.

Controll® Topseal is non-toxic and therefore not distinguishing mark according to the hazardous substances regulation. It is colourless, odourless, solvent-free, non-flammable and bio-degradable. Leave no film coating, but a transparent, clear and natural interface.

Controll® Topseal makes a strong water and dirt-resistant surface that prevents moss, fungus or algae infestation and is very easy to clean. The subsoil treated with Controll® Topseal is still protected against efflorescence, environmental factors (air pollution) and UV rays.

Beyond the product properties Controll® Topseal stand out due to low cost and short lay on times.
